During the different stages of life, the consequences of our food choices can be dramatic. They can have immediate or delayed effects on our health. Our nutritional requirements can vary significantly throughout our life. This is particularly important in preparation for pregnancy and for establishing an environment that promotes growth and development for a foetus. Our nutrient needs change from infancy to childhood and adolescence when phenomenal growth and development occurs. Inadequate nutrition during this time can compromise development and result in disease during the adult and later years. Additionally, nutrition can influence the ageing process by promoting health and slowing the process within our genetic limits. During the later years, ageing affects all of the major organ systems of the body. These physiological changes have consequences relating to body composition and our health. As a result, our nutritional requirements change resulting in different food requirements.
This service provides the knowledge and advice needed to improve your dietary habits and health for your gender and current stage of the life cycle. Practical strategies and advice is provided to help you achieve the recommended nutritional requirements for your age whilst avoiding the common nutritional concerns and conditions associated with each stage of life. Clients also have the option of undertaking a thorough nutrition assessment including a diet and social (work, family, habits etc) history questionnaire along with a weighed food record to enable more detailed personalised advice to be given.
